Meteor and Parse Server Hosting Update: Set up a URL Redirect for a Domain

Having your site referred to as, for example, example.com and www.example.com could be a problem with search engines as search engines consider them different websites. What this means is that if your website has been linked to from other websites using a mix of the two URLs, you are splitting the potential benefit of valuable link popularity.

Using a 301 redirect, you can effectively consolidate all your link popularity to a single URL. This could increase your website’s chances of obtaining and maintaining top ranking in search engine results. Today, we are making available a feature which allows you to easily do this for your Parse Server, Meteor and other Node.js apps hosted on NodeChef.

To set up a URL redirect from example.com to www.example.com, follow these steps:

  • Sign into you NodeChef account
  • Go to the Task Manager and see your app and database containers running. If you haven’t deployed your app yet, refer to the NodeChef documentation on how to deploy your app
  • Under Actions column, click the drop down for ‘App Actions’ and click on Routing

  • Click on Routing to open up the Routing pop up window. Enter your domains as seen below under 301 Hostname redirects. click the ‘Save Changes’ button.
